The Anatomy Lesson
81 X 89cm (32 X 35ins)
2018
split warp tapestry
This piece shows two of seven fractures sustained in a cycling accident on July 26, 2017. The physical healing went as expected. Unexpected were the emotional and psychological aftershocks that hit once the physical healing was under way. These were, in their way, more difficult to deal with. As I have done in the past around difficult events, I used art to help put the accident where it belongs: an event in the past. The title is from the Rembrandt painting, "The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolas Tulp"
Exhibited: National Juried Fiber Art Exhibition, Bedford, VA, Bower Center for the Arts, July 9 - August 17, 2019
